How to Help High Achieving, Unhappy Students

February 19, 2020

From Dr. Jed Applerouth and Dr. Gary Glass, Director of Counseling and Career Services of Emory Oxford College, a new way of approaching the epidemic of anxiety and stress that affects students throughout middle, high school, and college. Reframing how we look at the symptoms can help some students cope without  jumping to a "mental illness"  diagnosis. Our culture reinforces negative behaviors that are unhealthy and hard to resist. Anxiety and stress are based in fear. Understanding that may take students to the next level.

We can help students learn to care for themselves by teaching them that they can reduce stress by embracing their human qualities and authenticity rather than running on empty to win a contest that's unwinnable. Let me know if you'd like more details and slides.
