Yes, Some Students Really Are Kind
The encouraging NYTimes article below, written by an admissions counselor who was impressed by a student's simple politeness, didn't shock me. Most of the students I work with, as well as my own kids, exhibit kindness. Isn't this how we raised them to act? What shocked me were some of the responses that accused the student, and perhaps his parents, about having an ulterior motive. When Harvard University and several other colleges published Turning the Tide: Inspiring the Co

De-Stress Testing (just a little) with a Smart Test Prep Plan
When should test prep begin? There's no answer that serves every student. All students, however, would do well to take a diagnostic test at least a few months before beginning to prep. The PSAT and Pre-ACT for 10th graders can gauge test success, but taking a full-length SAT and ACT diagnostic reveals more about how a student will fare on the real test. Not sure which test to take? How much prep is needed to improve scores in one (or all) areas? Diagnostic tests help answer

Bucknell was the right choice
"Overall, I think this school was a right fit for me." Alison wanted to apply Early Decision, but there were two schools she loved. Colby College Welcomes the Student Explorer
I am thrilled that Dominick's first semester at Colby has gone so well. An outdoorsman dedicated to sustainability, an artist, and exceptional student, he was a natural for this hilltop Maine haven with its wildlife preserve and enthusiasm for sports (especially winter ones), world-class art professors and museum, and intellectual excellence and innovation. "Say you’ve always had a quirk. Maybe your choice of clothing comes from a closet different than everyone else's. Maybe

Summer Engineering/Robotics programs
From my colleagues at IECA, a great list of programs for the future engineer or anyone who would like to learn more about "how things work." January is prime time to focus on summer programs; many require an application so it's smart to start looking as soon as possible. First Reports from 2017 Freshmen
I've reached out to many of last year's students to hear about their college experiences so far. My purpose is twofold-to make sure they are doing well, and to learn about what being a student at a given college is like. I can visit, talk to admissions reps, and research, but nothing beats a first hand review. I will continue to update the Resources page of the website as reviews come in and post them on Facebook as well as on this blog. I'm starting with a very enthusiastic
